The law is about justice—not grace. But perhaps ranger Annie Pederson can find a way to have both.
As if the last few months haven’t been hard enough—complete with threats on her life and the return of her first love, Jon—Annie has to figure out whether or not to believe a woman who claims to be her sister, Sarah, who was abducted twenty-four years ago at age five. Annie’s eight-year-old daughter, Kylie, has plenty of questions about what’s going on in her mother’s life—but there are some stones Annie doesn’t want uncovered.
As Annie grapples with how to heal the gulf between her and her would-be sister and make room in her daughter’s life for Jon, she’s professionally distracted by the case of yet another missing hiker in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. A woman named Michelle Fraser has now been abducted, and though the woman’s estranged husband is at the top of their suspect list, Annie and her colleagues will need to dig deeper and determine whether these recent mysteries are truly as unrelated as they seem.
In this second novel of bestselling author Colleen Coble’s latest romantic-suspense series, Annie and Jon must fight for the future—and the family—that could once more be theirs.
My Thoughts:
As this is a part of a series, I always highly recommend starting with book one. I was appreciative of the backstory included to help bring crucial pieces of the first book back into play. It's not a heavy load of information and keeps the storyline flowing well. My favorite aspect is the growth of the relationship with Annie and Jon, including Kylie. But the secret Annie holds in regard to Jon and Kylie could potentially damage everything before they even get started.
With the first book, I was concerned with Annie's trust of Taylor. She gave me some bad vibes and as you read this second book of the series, you get to experience things via her point of view. Taylor refuses to take any personal responsibility and adds a layer of fright to the story.
In addition to Annie and Taylor's voices, you'll get to hear (read) the POV from the young woman who was kidnapped. This is where Coble really shines, in my opinion. She gives us different layers from different views that help kick the suspense up a notch.
Another wonderful installment of this series -- I am looking forward to seeing where Colleen Coble takes us!

Great review, thanks! I loved this book as well. My favorite parts were about Michelle (the young woman who was kidnapped.) I could have read a whole book about her! but I did love Annie and Jon too. :-)
