Concrete Evidence by DiAnn Mills October 31 - November 25, 2022 Virtual Book Tour

On the family’s Brazos River Ranch in Texas, Avery Elliott helps run her grandfather’s commercial construction business. Raised by Senator Elliott, Avery has never doubted her grandfather is the man of integrity and faith she’s always believed him to be . . . until the day she finds him standing with a gun over the body of a dead man. To make matters worse, Avery’s just discovered a billing discrepancy for materials supposedly purchased for construction of the Lago de Cobre Dam.

Desperate for answers, Avery contacts FBI Special Agent Marc Wilkins for help. As Marc works to identify the dead man Avery saw, threats toward Avery create a fresh sense of urgency to pinpoint why someone wants to silence her. With a hurricane approaching the Texas coast and the structural integrity of the Lago de Cobre Dam called into question, time is running out to get to the bottom of a sinister plot that could be endangering the lives of not only Avery and her loved ones but the entire community.

My Thoughts:

I was instantly blown away by the opening of this book! The suspense begins building from the start, never letting up. Avery's world is shaken to its core and with her finding questionable evidence about her grandfather, the work they do, and everything she's built her life upon. I love how Diann used the weather to add to the tension, easing it with pieces of faith and love.

For me, a cast of characters and organizations who are given flaws make a book even better. Avery, Marc, and the FBI are human. They make mistakes. But it adds to the realistic nature of the plot. In turn, that always dials up the suspense factor for me. Too many books make the FBI out as a robotic, unstoppable force that eliminates all human aspects. This was fantastic!

My heartstrings were pulled tight learning of Avery's past with her parents and the continuance of their maltreatment. Marc has experienced some pain of his own and I think it was a nicely written segway to connect the duo on a deeper level. The emotional factors partnered with the suspense for a perfect balance of a book that you won't be able to stop reading!

I received a complimentary copy for reviewing purposes. All opinions are my own.
