River of Wrath

by Alexandrea Weis & Lucas Astor

January 30 - February 24, 2023 Virtual Book Tour

More secrets are about to be uncovered, beginning with the arrival of a handsome stranger, and the discovery of bones long buried beneath the river …

Leslie Moore is struggling to get through her last semester at St. Benedict High. Even her relationship with her boyfriend Derek is falling apart. But after receding floodwaters from the Bogue Falaya River expose the bones of a woman, Leslie becomes obsessed with tracking down the killer.

Sightings of an apparition haunting The Abbey send Leslie and her friends back to the scene of the horrors from last Halloween, but no one is prepared for what they find.

After a stranger—the handsome Luke Cross—arrives in town, another girl goes missing, and the sheriff suspects the newcomer is hiding something. Leslie believes the Devereaux family is connected to everything going wrong in St. Benedict. And she means to uncover the truth, no matter the cost.

Not all secrets can be kept silent. Some eventually find their way home.

My Thoughts:

After reading the first book - River of Ashes - I knew this was going to be one of my most anticipated reads for 2023. First and foremost, another outstanding cover that draws you into the darkness. Every time I look at it, something new stands out, capturing my attention. Stunning, haunting, and moving all in itself! It alone makes you wonder what the pages between hold.

The aftermath of losing her sister, along with all of the other horrific experiences that the town faced, Leslie is back and pushing forward. She is trying to physically put the past behind her by hanging out with new people and banning Derek from her life. Her mental, emotional, and psychological scars, however, run deep.

Throughout the entire book, I felt like I was in a noir film. Everything was dark, except for the main action at the moment. It was brought to life with vivid descriptions, highlighting all five senses while reading. The Devereaux family is wrought with deceit, murder, and secrets that make your skin crawl. But with added layers of new players to the mix, this book leaves you haunted as to who is the darkest of them all.

I'm not often easy to creep out, but Weis and Astor are incredibly talented at building suspense and twisting you to where I was jumping at every noise while I read this at night. If I'd been home alone, I would've had to made myself put it down. The chills I got need to be recreated on screen to film with an adaptation from this series! Absolutely haunting!

I received a complimentary copy for reviewing purposes. All opinions are my own.
