My Thoughts:
The friends to lovers trope is always a comfortable one that I fall into when I want the romance without all of the apprehension of the "get-to-know-you" phase. But Melissa pulled a trick out of the hat by making that happen anyway. Sid and Gunner know each other in every way, except intimately. Letting Gunner slowly tear down the walls he built around his heart in regard to Sid was a nice twist on this trope.
Sidney is a force to be reckoned with that Gunner wasn't prepared for. She devised her mission, involved the target, and set her sights on an endgame. Either she was going to discover a passionate love like no other with him, or she was going to move on with her life. Her focus is sharp with a touch of sexy.
I loved the inclusion of the animals as their personalities add to the story, too. In their own way, they help bring Sid and Gunner together. By the way, the calendar needs to become a thing I can get my hands on!
Several times, Sidney made it known that she heard Gunner with his conquests. Although she desperately wanted to be in their place, I think Gunner did one better by giving her the sweeter, loving side of his heart, in addition to his body. Sid got the whole Gunner experience - something I believe he was holding out to give her all along.
My favorite swoon-worthy line was "I'd never risk our friendship if I didn't think this was real....By the end of the night, I promise you won't have any doubts." Absolutely another amazing 5-star read from Melissa Foster!
